We have seen how tattoos have become all the rage all over the place. Of course, they make a statement of identity, showcase interests, reveal relationship status, and advocate likes and causes. That’s why some philhellenes have taken the practice to new heights. They have become human canvases for Greek mythology, Greek history, Greek philosophy. I stumbled upon a Facebook Group that uses tattoos to promote Hellenic pride. Some of the designs are so carefully executed, in terms of both perspective and shading, they look like sketches from a Hellenic epic popped out to become inscribed into living flesh. These are practically works of fine art, and given the statuesque bods they have used as canvas, it’s like the gods and heroes of ancient Greece have come to life and are walking around the streets of Greece, San Francisco, Frankfurt for all mortals to admire. Take a look at this photo gallery to confirm how Greek pride can run skin deep, but doesn’t end there.
