#GreekDinner January 15
It started as an idea in Keri Douglas’s head (she’s a blogger, photographer down in DC). When her family had to relocate to Greece from Beirut after the start of the Lebanese War, no matter how bleak, how turbulent or violent, no matter how crazy things were, they would find sanctuary, joy, and comfort around the Greek table of the local taverna. Taking the cue from her life, Keri has decided to start a movement called #GreekDinner January 15. Her project involves organizing Greek dinner tables across cities all over the world and having people take pictures, tell stories, and show videos about their night. So far there are many scheduled dinner parties from Stockholm to London. We here at www.greekamericangirl.com are also arranging a “symposium” of sorts. Everyone, you don’t have to be Greek of course, is invited. Here’s the rundown:
Let’s celebrate a night of Greek cuisine and culture! Come to Okeanos under the auspices of GreekAmericanGirl.com, singles, families, Greeks and those who love them in conjunction with the global event to celebrate Greek joie de vivre across other cities. Check out #GreekDinner on Twitter.
For an amazing price of $25 you will get a 5-course meal at an authentic seafood restaurant in the heart of Little Athens, Astoria, the superb, Okeanos. Meet and mingle with other philhellenes as we discuss stories of good food, good wine and adventures in Greece around the dinner table. Who knows–we might even dance and break some plates!
Your meal includes soup and salad and other entree, then main course a choice of grilled whole bronzini, whole boiled or broiled lobster, brook trout, skirt steak, or filet of sole, followed by a desert and coffee. Can’t beat all this for $25 bucks! It’s a steal!
Okeanos is conveniently located at the last stop of the N/Q line “Ditmars Boulevard” around the corner on Ditmars and 35th Street.
