Greektown: Detroit
“Who goes to Detroit?” my brother asked me. “That place is a dump.”
Someone who loves to uncover the Greek communities in every major city of America, that’s who. Before Astoria, before Chicago, Detroit’s Greektown was the epicenter of Greekdom. While in 2021, it has dwindled into a five-block area, it still keeps the spirit. Greek-inspired store names, Pegasus, Greek-music blaring into the street, all harken back to the heyday of Detroit’s Hellenic history.
