St Katherine of Alexandria, November 25
The holy martyr and saint Catherine ranks as a superstar saint sharing in the most exulted limelight of spiritual female luminaries by the likes of St Barbara, St Mary Magdelene, St Irene. She was born around 305 AD in Alexandria (some sources claim Cyprus) to a pagan father Konstas, the ruler of Alexandria, a bastion of Hellenistic culture at that time, and a Christian mother.
To this day, St Catherine is known as “the all-wise maiden of Alexandria”. She is known for the divine wisdom or “sophia” that infused her with the power to convert others to the truth.
